These dogs are very lively, energetic and good-humoured dogs. Boston terriers are a pleasant mixture of determination, balance, power and elegance.

Temperament

Boston terriers are very gentle mannered, calm and affectionate dogs. They have a very good natured disposition and a sociable nature which has earned them the nickname “the American gentleman of dogs”. Currently they are one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Their compact size with their friendly and relaxed nature has made them a strike amongst dog lovers. The Boston terrier is an eager dog – always ready to please his loved ones. They are also enormously loyal dogs. These dogs are very dedicated pets – as well as lovers and givers of attention. Boston terriers just love to be part of the family, and for loved ones to get involved. The Boston terrier can sometimes be very feisty, but at other times they can be calm and distinguished.

Care

Their smooth and short-haired coats are easy to groom. They should be combed and brushed with a firm bristle brush and bathed only when it is necessary. Their faces should be wiped with a damp cloth on a daily basis, and their prominent eyes should also be cleaned very carefully. Both ears and eyes should be checked for grass seeds. There might also be ticks present in their ears. It is also good to clip their nails from time to time. These dogs are also very average shedders. Some people also say that these dogs have a very trusting nature seeing that they get along with strangers and love to meet new people. Boston terriers that are socialized well are sweet and gentle dogs. These dogs are also very independent as well, and they can be quite stubborn at times. The character of this breed makes them perfect for inexperienced dog owners, but also for the experienced owner. They are also well suited for households with children and other pets. Owners who are unable to dedicate enough time to their pets should not get these dogs. They do not like to be neglected, and they very much long for the company of their owners and family.
