History Chinese Crested dogs are originally from Africa where they were called “African Hairless Terriers.” The ancient tribe of the Aztecs liked these dogs very much – and apparently they were used by them to warm their beds. They also did eat them. Chinese trading ships stopped along Africa on their routes and it was there that they picked up these dogs because they were excellent in controlling pests aboard their ships. They renamed these dogs to “Chinese Crested” and the name stuck since then. The Chinese Crested Dog has been acquiring a lot of popularity as a happy companion dog in both the United Stated and in England.
